Outing to Benridge Woolworks

Instead of our usual monthly meeting at St Oswald's we decided to go out and about during the month of May. We started with a fascinating trip to Benridge Woolworks, whose dynamic owner, Lucinda Bird, came and spoke to us at our AGM in February. We are so grateful to her for taking a morning out of her busy schedule to show us around. Her energy and vision are truly inspirational! In a remarkably short space of time, she has built up a business sourcing and processing local fleeces. Highlights of the tour were the "Alphabet of fleeces" -bags of fleece laid out in aisles starting with A for Alpaca and ending with Z for Zwartbles and the carding machine, which had one of our members so entranced we ended up leaving without him! The drying room was also popular as it gave some welcome respite from the dismal weather.
